First, thanks to all the HOA volunteers for donating their time and talents to do a very thankless job.

Second, the speeding cars going through the neighborhood are a big concern for me. However, I would hate to see us have speed bumps/humps installed, which will just increase the wear on our cars. I don't have solution that's would be any more effective, and I wish I did.

The speeding cars are a big concern for me too. Most of these that I see are construction workers. We should be able to tell them to slow down and/or contact the builder and let them know that they are racing through our streets. The problem is the speed limit is 30 so people go 35-40. We should see about lowering it to 20. Just a thought.

Please vote in our survey above, this is a non-binding poll to gage interest of the residents in having the board persue adding speed bumps on the roads of the Sub-division

I split out the discussion of Speed Bumps as it was off-topic in the thread it was posted in, but a valid discussion. Please feel free to continue to discuss your issue here in a Speed Bump specific thread.

Thanks for understanding.

maybe a better question would be, " Do you think that speed humps would protect children's lives in our neighborhood?" we have dozens of young children in the woods at cedar oaks and daily i see cars and trucks pass our house travelling sometimes 40 to 50 mph. i, frankly, don't want to have to drive slower either, but i don't think i have the right to drive fast when there are young children at play. the speed limit sign is great, but in reality, if no one is there to enforce it, the sign is mute. just my 2 cents, darren

In my past experiences there have been liability issues with speed bumps that the HOA nor the City/County has been willing to take on. This issue is like the hot coffee lawsuit that McDonalds lost, the end user should have better sense, BUT that does not happen. Your emergency services may say they will not service our area because of the bumps. They seem to have a problem taking a $500k fire truck over them because of the equipment on board. I think an effort on everyones behalf to talk with builders, neighbors, and maybe get plate numbers to give to the Sheriffs Dept. I have been known to raise my voice to those who drive faster than they should, A simple SLOW DOWN in a higher volume does wonders sometimes.

As residents, maybe we can influence behavoir with a few reminders in our yards? Here are a few slowdownsigns at: http://www.slowdownsigns.com/

Also, whenever I see one of these, it reminds me to check my speed:

I agree with Darren that the roads are dangerous to children, and I agree with the many that speed humps would be hard on tires. The signs that Dan mentioned might be a solution.

I agree that speeding is an issue for our neighborhood. The fact is that the speeders our are neighbors themslves. Sure there are a few builders that speed, but last time i looked there were very few houses under construction. The majority of the speeders live in this neighborhood.
I feel that the speed bumps would only be effective where they actually are placed. In other words, it will just be a race in between the bumps. I agree with Duane. We are neighbors, but when it comes to my child know your limits. If my childs safety is in question, you are gonna hear my voice.
30MPH is plenty fast for a neighborhood. If you feel the need to exceed that, then dont get your feelings hurt when the neighborhood brings it to your attention.
